Alec Abraham -Trustee
I am a trained social worker and originally worked as a medical social worker in Glasgow prior to coming to New Zealand in 1979. I worked as a hospital social worker in geriatric care initially and then as an alcohol and drug counsellor for Presbyterian Social Services before working in a counselling private practice. I have worked in a multitude of different settings, with diverse communities, hospitals and general practitioners, prisons, schools and hauora Maori services. I was involved in both setting up and teaching in the first professionally accredited clinical supervision course for social workers and counsellors in New Zealand, run by Weltec.I also served on the Henderson High School Board of Trustees for nine years and was the Board of Trustees representative for the Waitakere Education Sector Trust (WEST).I am now semi-retired, and currently a member of the Parkinsons Group at the Neurological Rehabilitation Foundation. I am thankful for the knowledge, skills and experience that life has given me and intend to bring this learning both as a giver and receiver of services in my role as client representative.
